A Hard Day’s Night

  1. Retiring podcast hosts

  2. New series of episodes

Fond farewells

EXCERPT: “This is a special mini-episode to preview a series of Beatles60 podcast episodes. Before we dive in, I want to mention two beloved podcasts that concluded this week: Nothing Is Real and I Am The Eggpod. Steven and Jason have entertained us with the kind of details that fans find informative. I’ve appreciated their wit. They’re set to host a live event in Dublin for mid-May, celebrating the 60th anniversary of ‘A Hard Day’s Night,’ featuring Mark Lewisohn. Beyond that, their future collaborations remain to be seen. Chris Shaw’s podcast has also been informative. His interview style has been noted as both relaxed and sharp. There’s an EggPod live event planned in London on the 60th anniversary of ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ premiere, with Mark Lewisohn also making an appearance.

Both podcasts will be missed. Yet, podcasts don’t vanish when their hosts move on. The archives will stay with us, like books on a shelf—evergreen. Contributors to our Facebook groups will keep posting links to archived episodes, not all at once, but intermittently, as they align with our 60-years-ago timeline. In the Beatles60 universe, it’s still April 1964. ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ hasn’t been named yet. We’re looking forward to revisiting related podcasts in the months and years ahead. In doing so, we’ll continue to draw from the wealth of knowledge provided by Nothing Is Real and I Am The EggPod throughout the rest of this decade. Their contributions to our understanding of the 1960s are as valuable as, for instance, Mark Lewisohn’s chronological accounts. These are indeed EARLY DAYS.”

NEW SERIES: Early 1964

In the upcoming four-part series, the Beatles' personal experiences during early 1964 are explored, offering insights into their lives as they navigated an unprecedented level of fame. Engaging with daily updates in the Facebook groups allows anyone to immerse themselves in the living history of the early ‘64 world. Topics include the Beatles' return to London after conquering America, interviews with Cassius Clay, and their first feature film, “A Hard Day’s Night.” Insights arise through the whole daily context in sequence, such as the Beatles' every day doings, the music weeklies' new focus on blue beat, and the growing influence of the mod subculture. The Beatles' experimentation with ska and the British music magazines provide insights into the past. The Beatles' adaptability to their sudden global prominence in early 1964 is revealed through candid photos and documentaries, revealing the pace behind the scenes and the support they found in each other. The fourth and final episode in the series looks at how the Beatles grappled with their new global fame, and the challenges successfully glossed over by their outward confidence.
